Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority: Proposed Shoreline Management Plan — Public Information Open Houses

These meetings follow the decision by ABCA last November to revise the previously proposed draft plan and in doing so to seek greater public input.  Updates to the Shoreline Management Plan will provide a consistent and up-to-date guide for development and municipal land use planning along the shoreline.

People interested in shoreline management are invited to attend public information open houses.

  • Open Houses from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. noon
  • Presentations begin at 10:30 a.m.
  • June 3, 2017 at Zurich Arena, 15 East Street, Zurich
  • June 17, 2017 at Legacy Recreation Centre Hall, 16 Allen Street, Thedford

Topics include progress of technical studies, existing policies, coastal processes, shoreline recession, shoreline protection, and climate change impacts on the Great Lakes.

In keeping with the Shoreline Management Plan, OPAi encourages lakefront owners to not disturb the dunes on their property and beyond without consulting the ABCA.

OPAi SHORELINE MANAGEMENT PLAN UPDATE

Please see below the invitation for public attendance at the upcoming ABCA Board of Directors meeting. We were successful in persuading the ABCA Board to hold the meeting in a different location than what would normally be the case, that only allowed for about 10 viewers.  However, this shift in venue has resulted in an earlier date than anticipated. It is to be held:

Date: Thursday, November 3, 2016
Time: 11 a.m.
Location: South Huron Recreation Centre, 94 Victoria Street East, Exeter, Ontario

The Agenda for this meeting can be found here. We are asking for your attendance at this meeting.

This meeting  is to deal with the following motion against proposed restrictive measures on shoreline properties.

“Resolved, that the ABCA Board of Directors declares that it does not intend to implement the ABCA Shoreline Development Guidelines of Section 7.8 in the report (pages 113-117) in its proposed form and does not endorse the underlying principle of “managed retreat” and the unilateral prohibition of any shoreline protection works.

OPAi’s response to the ABCA Board of Directors can be found here.
